As member benefits have expanded and improved in recent years, corresponding guidelines that you, as a TRS employer, must follow have also evolved. To better serve you and provide you with up-to-date information, staff from our Employer Services Department will be visiting school districts to conduct popular half-day meetings with you from December through May.
Who should participate in the employer meeting?
All individuals who are responsible for the TRS reporting functions and recordkeeping duties at your school should participate in the employer meeting.
If you are new to TRS reporting responsibilities, we strongly recommend that you schedule a meeting with our staff. We can customize your meeting to provide the basic knowledge you need to get started.
If you are experienced in TRS reporting, we can gear the meeting toward fine-tuning your reporting skills or resolving particular problems you have been experiencing.
What can I expect from an employer meeting?
During the meeting, we will review your current reporting practices, provide training, discuss recent changes, and answer questions about TRS reporting issues. We will specifically address
- membership;
- creditable earnings;
- noncreditable earnings;
- remittances, including Payroll Deduction Program payments; supplementary reports;
- the Employer’s Annual Report of Earnings; and
- Teachers’ Health Insurance Security (THIS) Fund changes.
Where will the meetings be held?
We will travel to your school district office to conduct the meeting.
How long is the meeting expected to last?
Meetings are expected to last approximately three hours, but this time frame is somewhat flexible.
How do I schedule an employer meeting?
Scheduling a meeting is as easy as 1–2–3.
- Complete the Employer Meeting Request reply card. Be sure to tell us the specific topics you would like us to address.
- Mail the reply card to us.
- We will contact you to schedule a meeting date.
What information do I need to provide before the meeting?
To gain familiarity with and get a better understanding of your reporting issues and needs, we will ask you to provide us with copies of the following documents for the last fiscal year:
- negotiated agreement
- administrator’s benefit handbook or a completed TRS Employer
